Fluency in the IELTS Speaking test is crucial for a high band score. It reflects your ability to express ideas naturally, without long pauses or constant self-correction — and it is the criterion students most often believe they cannot improve alone. They can.

Narrate, don't translate

The pause that costs you marks is the one where you build the sentence in Tamil and convert it. Practise describing what you see around you in simple English until the conversion step disappears.

Use the Part 2 minute properly

You are given one minute and a pencil. Write four words, not four sentences — one per point you will make. Then talk to the words, not the paper.

Record yourself, once a day

Nobody enjoys this. Everybody who does it improves. Listen for filler sounds and repeated phrases; those are the habits an examiner hears too.
